Entries are now open for next year’s Vitality Westminster Mile, the world’s biggest mile, which takes place on Sunday 26 May 2019.
This year, a total of 8,048 runners crossed the famous finish line in front of Buckingham Palace to make the 2018 Vitality Westminster Mile the biggest timed mile event in the world by smashing the previous world record of 7,664 finishers set at the 2017 New York Fifth Avenue Mile.
The iconic course starts on The Mall and loops around St James’s Park to finish in front of Buckingham Palace. The programme for the day includes family and adult races, school races, the British Age Group Road Mile Championships for runners in the Under 13 to Under 20 age groups and elite races. The Olympians Mile brings together athletes who have competed for Great Britain in any sport in an Olympic Games (summer or winter).
This year the event included the first British Masters Mile and in 2019 the event will become the Vitality British Masters One Mile Road Championships, offering the opportunity for Masters athletes to challenge the best runners in the UK in their age group over the mile distance.
Alongside the mile events, the all-day Vitality Wellness Festival takes place in Green Park and is packed with free family-friendly activities including coaching sessions in a range of sports, the giant Tumbleator, and loads of spot prizes on offer. There are plenty of places to picnic and a range of food on sale.
The Vitality Westminster Mile is free for those aged 11 and under, £6 for 12-16 year olds and £8 for adults. There is £1 discount for Westminster residents.
